Post-traumatic reconstruction is needed to correct problems such as malunions (bones that have healed incorrectly) and nonunions (fractures that have not healed). Various treatment methods can be employed to correct these conditions, including open reduction and internal fixation with bone graft or corrective osteotomies. Our reconstruction physicians are proficient in the latest assessment and treatment methods for these conditions.
UT Southwestern physicians specialize in the latest surgical techniques, including percutaneous fixation of pelvic fractures. They routinely diagnose and treat patients suffering from osteomyelitis, pelvic fractures and fractures of the acetabulum, fractures involving joints, long bone fractures and fractures that fail to heal. High-energy trauma and multiple-injury patients are regularly cared for as well.
Fractures of the pelvis and the acetabulum are among the most serious injuries treated by orthopaedic surgeons. Often the result of a car accident or severe fall, these injuries require rapid and precise treatment.
