Pancreatic Diseases :: About Our Program

About Our Program | Conditions and Illnesses | Our Physicians | Patient Education Materials | Support Groups and Resources

UT Southwestern Medical Center offers adult and pediatric patients a unique and rare opportunity to interact with faculty with special interest and training in the care of disease of the pancreas. Few centers in the world can offer such a degree of comprehensive care.

Our expertise ranges from benign pancreas conditions, such as acute pancreatitis and recurrent pancreatitis, to familial conditions, such as hereditary pancreatitis, and pancreatitis associated with cystic fibrosis, pancreas cysts, cystic neoplasma and ductal cell adenocarcinoma of the pancreas.

Our multidisciplinary approach  includes a dedicated and experienced group of physicians, which include:

  • Pancreatologists
  • Gastroenterologists
  • Surgeons with expertise in managing benign and malignant diseases of the pancreas
  • Geneticists, nutritionists, radiologists and oncologists

UT Southwestern’s specialists use our state-of-the-art medical resources to diagnose pancreatic disease, and are experts at using endoscopy to evaluate and treat disease of the pancreas.

Organ-preserving surgery such as the Beger resection, or limited tail resections of the pancreas, are offered after consultation with our surgery experts.

Our program also offers minimally invasive procedures, as well as standard surgery to treat pancreatic cysts and other conditions that may accompany pancreatic disease. Innovative approaches to pancreas disease, such as endoscopic cyst drainage with stenting and re-establishment of pancreas duct patency through endoscopic techniques are also offered.

Comprehensive care includes referrals to our Pain Management Program for patients with chronic pain due to chronic pancreatitis.

Because our faculty is actively involved in research, our patients have access to the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options.

In addition, UT Southwestern’s comprehensive medical resources enable patients to have an initial consultation, testing, follow-up visits and any needed medical procedures all in one location.
